This logo is certainly clean and modern. I am not 100% sure how effective it is – but good work none the less.

The applications make it great. http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/new_theatre_on_rotation.php
To see applications makes it clear – its soooo clever and creative, logo makes ambigram too, whoa, it exactly follows what they are “We’re not slick, we’re not refined and we don’t conform,” I love it as designer but as theatre visitor, … hmmm isn’t it too much pushing me forward? When they are not doing it for money and they are artists, why they spent money on Interbrand to make them very good but commercial looking branding? For independent theatre I would like to see independent form of publicity. This is not in my opinion. But anyways it looks great, has impact, professionalism in execution and creativity and I like it.
I really like this but it took me a while to notice that the ‘T’ in the word Theatre is forming the top right part of the big letter N. Perhaps it might have stood out more if all the elements of the big N were in a different colour to the rest of the text. Excellent use of it on the various posters for each of the plays on the New Theatre website too.
My mind is not changed by the applications. A logo should be able to stand on it’s own without the illustrative support of the applications. When I look at just the logo I get “?”
Quite awesome in its application, but 100% agreed with Martin.
Martin sounds like an account manager
just calling it as I see it.
