TheCAVE Architects + Designers. This typographic logo is used on all business documents; business cards, letterheads, invoices, website, etc. Drawing title blocks have been created with the logo anchoring the drawing information. Legibility and instant recognition were key. Due to the nature of the prints which the architects create it was critical that the logo works best in mono reproduction.

The typographic logo makes use of minimal form to deliver its message. The company is named following the setup during the worst recession in many years. Throughout history people have retreated to live in claves when faced with adversity. The cave is representative of this. A company formed in the face of adversity which will endure the test of time. It suggests a permanence and dependability. The typography is stripped down i.e. removal of cross bars.

There is a graphic device which is used on the rear of the business cards and is an abstraction of a cave. The opening at the mouth of the cave is cropped to form a “c”.

I agree, this logo is hoping that an upside-down V for an A can carry the design, not quite successful in this case.

Like it.

Read the background to it, the context in which the company set up, what it means… Its strong & clever – not just someone having a w@nk over pretty graphics. Has a job to do & needs to work in wider range of formats than most LOTD.

Like to see the abstract of the Cave mentioned in the write up

Sorry Chris, but this website showcases (and invites criticism of) logos, not business plans.

Not quite sure where your ‘w@nk over pretty graphics’ line came from, though the poor grammar bares a striking resemblence to the prose submitted with the above logo. Funny that …

Actually Chris, now that I’ve read the whole description up there, I like the logo even less.

“Throughout history people have retreated to live in claves (sic) when faced with adversity. The cave is representative of this. A company formed in the face of adversity which will endure the test of time. It suggests a permanence and dependability.”

Why not focus on relating the name to what the company does, rather than topical and meaningless excuses about people huddling in caves to hide for all time?

Retreat, hiding, fear, cold, dark, uncertainty, those are the feelings you are evoking. Really the rationale given is much WORSE than the logo design.

Regarding the design, the font used in “the” feels weak, maybe Helv, Futura, or another classic sans would be better. On their web page a tagline is added in Helv, making the logo appear to have 3 fonts…eh

Hi,
Im not being drawn into a debate. I justified my work. The fact that people do and don’t like it is typical of the industry. I am just pleased it provokes some thought.

I would like to make it clear to Mr Lamb that despite his suspicion, the comment made by Chris Waine is not me under alias. I have no problem commenting under my real name.

John, thanks for the constructive crit your ideas are interesting.

It’s not a good design, doesn’t evoke anything but criticism.

I would also at least mention that “The” in this logo is a complete afterthought.

Ed Lamb …. poor grammar? Was that necessary?

Simply stating an opinion – as you were also doing.

Logos have a job to do – they need to convey something about the brand they represent. I am sure you know this.
