“This logo was created by myself to be a personal representation of me. It is meant to serve as a memorable icon that people associate with me, and especially one that my clients will recognize, and keep them coming back.

The logo concept is a play on my initials. The “C” forms the head, and the “M” becomes the upper body. I consider myself a professional individual, but at the same time I am fun and outgoing, and I think this logo speaks that.”

I think the logo is very clever and creative, it´s difficult to design a personal logo.

Not sure about genius, but its fun, its simple, I like it a lot, especially with it being a personal logo, Diane is 100% correct, designing a personal logo is incredibly tough and Chris did a great job of doing what he set out to do with it. I also really like the font that he chose, it fits with the icon great.

What does this logo tell people about what Chris does for them? Not a thing. That is unless Chris is in the dry cleaning business or rents tuxedos. It’s creative, beautiful, and even cute, but not appropriate at all for a designer — that is unless he designs business clothes for men.

My suggestion would be to quit trying to be so different that you forget about what you do. Think in terms of your location or your business-focus — your specialty — instead of trying to be so unique that it makes no contextual sense. This would be a great logo for a dry cleaner, a clothier/tailor, or someone working in mens fashion. But for a designer? I’m not seeing the context.

Pick something unique about yourself or your work and try to come up with a metaphor or simile for that context. Even a unique, hand-drawn type treatment would make more sense than a generic user icon wearing a suit.

This logo is three things: unique, simple, and memorable. Very effective. A logo does not literally need to display one’s specialty or craft to be successful: how many serious clients base their hiring decision on whether a designer’s logo visually represents design? Could they not find Chris’ icon clever and different and that it separates him from other designers – or at least makes him memorable? We don’t know. So let Chris develop his own personal style.

I agree with UmYeah. Looking at the logo I would think he has something to do with clothing.
A logo should be simple, memorable, and unique, but also should be appropriate.

I like the design, and I think it’s a great logo for a designer… of men’s clothing. I think the issues is that the tie is such a strong element that it leads the viewer to assume that it conveys the meaning of the entire design, rather than being simply a supporting element.

(The writeup also needs editing.)

[...] After a week’s worth of sketching and messing with Adobe Illustrator without coming up with anything worthwhile, I was getting ready to give up. The next thing that happened changed my personal branding forever. I accidentally turned the letter “C” on it’s side. Something clicked, and the ideas started flowing. After a few more hours messing around, I came up with my personal logo. I’m super proud of it, and heck, it even won a Logo of the Day award! [...]
